Elementary I
The Elementary I course prepares children's guides for the first half of the second plane of development (6-9 years). It includes a philosophical component, as well as methodology, curriculum and environmental management. The characteristics of children on this plane are studied and how Cosmic Education responds to them. Adult learners will have the opportunity to witness and practice the lessons of the cosmic curriculum. The course also prepares the adult learner in the development of the prepared environment and its management, the planning and assessment of the total child's learning and development.
El curso de Taller I prepara guías de niños y niñas de la primera mitad del segundo plano de desarrollo (6-9 años). Incluye un componente filosófico, así como de metodología, currículo y manejo del ambiente. Se estudian las características de los niños de este plano y cómo la Educación Cósmica responde a las mismas. Los aprendices adultos tendrán la oportunidad de presenciar las lecciones del currículo cósmico y de practicarlas. El curso también prepara al aprendiz adulto en cuanto al desarrollo del ambiente preparado y su manejo, la planificación y el avalúo del aprendizaje y desarrollo total del niño.

Adult apprentices must complete an internship phase of at least 1080 hours over a 9-month period. This phase of the training process will allow the adult apprentice to implement the knowledge acquired in the academic phase.
The internship has two (2) modalities:
Self-directed: The intern is the primary person in charge of the environment. Usually recommended for teachers with prior experience.
Supervised: The intern practices within a prepared environment of a certified guide with at least two (2) years of experience in the environment.

Admission requirements for Elementary I candidates: BA degree from an accredited institution, college or university.
Complete admission application
Write a two (2) page essay on computer, as indicated on the course application form.
Submit 1 English transcript from the last degree conferred
Participate in the interview of candidates for Montessori training courses
Participate in the orientation of admitted to Montessori training courses

After completing the academic and practical phase, INE will recommend the student for certification with AMS. To do so, the program requires that the student:

Montessori Credential
Adult learners from INE would receive an AMS (American Montessori Society) Montessori Guide certification at the Elementary I level upon completion of all requirements. As of 2012, the Puerto Rico Department of Education recognizes this as a valid Montessori credential and grants a "Montessori Teacher Credential": an authorized credential for teaching in PR public schools.
