New teachers join the Public Montessori Schools movement

At Instituto Nueva Escuela (INE) we talk about the “two hearts” of the organization: the Academic Program and the Transformation Program.

The Academy is where the INE came to be, since it was born from the need to certify teachers in the Montessori methodology in Puerto Rico in Spanish. This is the starting point and the first heart: the training of teachers.

On the march, the second heart of our work is born: School Transformation, vital for the miracle to occur and the ideal scenario so that the teaching profession can exercise and children and youth can receive an education of excellence. This transformation requires the integration of families and the community into the educational project and collective work for the common good.

Although it is in summer that the Montessori training courses begin, for us it is like spring, it is a time of rebirth, where new educators who have decided to give Montessori education the opportunity for their children, lives and their school are welcomed at INE with great enthusiasm.

After the orientation, application and interview process, last Saturday, April 27, 77 educators arrived at Río Piedras to receive their course admission orientation.

That day, excitement and joy reigned early that day; It began early in the morning with the new members of the Early Childhood and Elementary levels, the day ended with the Infants and Toddlers, and Secondary levels.

The family grows within the schools; Some of the teachers who join belong to schools in the existing Montessori public school community, others arrive as pioneers within their school community. Schools are transforming and the network of schools is growing.

“The day ran as planned with each of the groups. It was a day full of emotions and joys ahead of summer. The adult learners of the 2024 - 2025 Montessori training courses were happy, eager to get started, and committed,” said Annabel Martinez, director of the Academic Program.

Courses will begin on June 12. Luz Marie Rivera, who will be trained as a Montessori guide at the Infants level, shares with us that “I expect a lot from this summer, I hope to learn from this philosophy, not only grow as a professional, but also as a person. And to feel that I have all the tools to make that environment run and impact the children.”
