Casa Familiar reaches new communities

Instituto Nueva Escuela (INE) celebrates the growth of services of Casa Familiar (CF) services, reaching this year two new school communities in Puerto Rico.

The growth occurs through an alliance between the 12 existing Casa Familiar and 2 new spaces "born" from them. "We celebrate this growth and having a greater reach, being able to serve more families in need," said Carmen Ríos, director of Escuelas para la Paz, at INE.

The new Casa Familiar emerged, at the request of the communities, in two Montessori public schools: Luis Muñoz Rivera in Guaynabo and Luis Muñoz Marín in Comerio.

Since 2015, Casa Familiar program has the mission of accompanying families and students from Montessori school communities, providing them with a safe space and quality services that address adverse situations that they are going through or have gone through.

During the last three years we have seen an increase in terms of the socio-emotional needs of the population. The extreme situations we have experienced on a planetary scale and as a people have led us to radical situations that affect our physical and emotional health.

Addressing this in our schools is a priority task. Casa Familiar, now 14, continue their mission to transform difficult situations and human pain into an action plan for health and happiness.

The existing Casa Familiar have a coordinator and an assistant and the new Casa Familiar have a coordinator who will work hand in hand with the team of the “mother” Casa Familiar.

Both offer the same help and well-being services: psychological therapies, alternative therapies such as yoga, music therapy, art therapy and recreational activities designed exclusively for each one of the participants and their families.
