INE's Academic Program shares it's achievements

We celebrate…

Summer is always a celebration for Instituto Nueva Escuela (INE) and the Academic Program (PA), some finish one stage to start another, some obtain their certification, others begin their transformation process and see the results of a whole year of work where the boy, the girl and the young man were the engine.

INE, under the MACTE and AMS accreditations, offers courses for the Certification of Montessori Guides at all educational levels: Infants & Toddlers, Early Childhood, Elementary I, Elementary II, Secondary I and Directors; offers the course for Assistants and the Montessori Philosophy Course for support staff in public Montessori schools.

We celebrate…

Internships in "pandemic times"... 79 teachers from the public system began their internship in 2021-22.

The certification of 64 adult learners receiving their Montessori Guide Certification from the American Montessori Society (AMS) this year. Since 2005, the INE has certified 407 guides.

The Montessori Guide Assistants course was offered to 53 adult apprentices who work with children from 0-12 years of age.

Some 89 adult apprentices participated in Continuous Education through the Ángel Ramos Foundation Virtual Preschool Initiative aimed at the levels of Infants & Toddlers and Early Childhood.

4 material construction workshops were offered for Elementary I and Elementary II. During the workshops, adult learners and interns reviewed techniques for building materials and had the opportunity to make various Cultural Studies materials for their environments. A total of 43 adult learners participated in this Continuing Education.

We celebrate…

The adult learners and certified guides at the secondary level who participated in the "Behavioral deviations in adolescents" talk offered by the clinical psychologist Moraima García in November. In this workshop, Dr. García, a specialist in adolescence, shared with the guides the characteristics and needs of young people, their cognitive, physical, social and emotional development.

We celebrate initiatives that were born during 2021-22 that strengthened the Montessori public education project and contributed to its growth:

  • Online education through which they offered two sections of the Montessori General Philosophy course. 36 adult learners participated, including resource teachers, English, physical education and art teachers, non-teaching school staff and other members of the school community. It motivated them to take the course, to feel part of the transformation of their school.

  • Academic newsletters: through which the initiatives that were born, news, readings, among other matters of interest to the teachers, were shared with the community. Four academic newsletters were published in 2021-22 .

  • Focus groups: with teachers of English and special education. Two sessions were held in which 48 educators participated. The teachers brought to the table their interest in being part of the transformation of their schools and the need to train as Montessori guides.

The Montessori Directors course received final accreditation from the American Montessori Society (AMS). This is a great achievement for the Montessori Public Project and for the transformation of each school community. This course is also an achievement at the country level by becoming the first Montessori training center in Puerto Rico and the Caribbean that offers Montessori certification for directors. In the world there are only 12 centers that offer this certification.

Looking ahead to 2022-2023… we continue to grow

Sixty-three (63) adult learners were admitted to courses this new academic year. The Academic Program received this summer a total of 73 participants; including adult learners from Elementary II and Secondary who continue their academic phase.

“We welcome you this academic year with great enthusiasm and joy. We have called this year 'the year of reconnection, of reunion'”, shared Annabel Martínez Rivera, director of the Academic Program.

From the coexistence with the guides, the focus groups and evaluations of the program, the work plans are born. Between these…

  • Continuous Education for Montessori teachers

  • Publications on pedagogy and educational practices

  • Support and Mentoring Program for Montessori Guides and Directors

  • Secondary Level Curriculum Review

  • Distance learning courses

  • and much more...
