Volunteers from Yale and Pratts universities come to serve public Montessori schools in the country
The Manuel Elzaburu and Vizcarrondo Montessori schools in Cantera and Juan Ponce de León in Guaynabo received helping hands in their school communities.
Volunteers from Yale University arrived at the Manuel Elzaburu and Vizcarrondo School. These volunteers worked in art, health, sports, agriculture, anthropology and journalism activities.
Some of the many activities were mural painting, workshops for parents on managing emotions, a journalism workshop, an archeology workshop, development of the planting area, a sports clinic, a robotics class, and a workshop on how to purify water.
During the week this group of volunteers got to work with around 250 students and 20 families.
For some of the Yale volunteers, this was their second visit, since in March 2020 they managed to serve the República del Perú and Luis Llorens Torres schools.
The alliance that began in 2019 with the INE continues. Since the Steering Committee of this group of volunteers is planning their next visit and concrete ways to support the School Transformation that we pursue.
Volunteers high school students from the Department of Art and Design of the Pratt Institute in New York arrived at Juan Ponce de León. This visit served them as a field experience that said baccalaureate requires.
They managed to work with 80 students between the ages of 9 and 12 teaching them, from "zero" the engraving technique.
The students exhibited their work on the last day so that the school community and families could see what they had learned. In addition to this workshop, an Art Therapy experience was offered to a group of twelve young people from Secondary.
