Huellas de Salud Foundation joins the project allies

The alliances that can be made with foundations, companies and organizations enrich the offers to students within the school community, managing to join forces for social well-being.

On this occasion, the Huellas de Salud Foundation has joined the work of the Casa Familiar program, contributing to the Delia Dávila de Cabán school community in the municipality of Toa Baja.

The Huellas de Salud Foundation is a non-profit entity (501 c) (3), established in Puerto Rico in 2017 with the purpose of promoting good physical, mental and social health among Puerto Ricans so they are aware of the importance of living healthy and improving their quality of life.

Meanwhile, Casa Familiar was born from the Instituto Nueva Escuela and seeks to establish a meeting place for the family to share their task of parenting in a community with other fathers, mothers and caregivers, with health professionals and members of the school community. It is a place of peace and tranquility that inspires confidence so that children, young people and their families receive psychosocial services and can tell their story freely.

In November 2023, the alliance between Huellas de Salud and Toa Baja’s Casa Familiar began. During that month they carried out a series of activities, the first was a workshop for families on the topics of nutrition, physical activity and emotional management. All in order to strengthen the healthy upbringing and development of boys and girls.

Likewise, we worked with students, guides and Elementary II assistants with the same topics through very fun activities full of a lot of information.

For Luz Rivera Ocasio, coordinator of this Casa Familiar, the activity seemed like a success. She saw families and students, the faculty and school community joyfully learn about issues important to their health and well-being.

“Alliances like these help the work we do at Casa Familiar and are extremely important because they allow us to meet the needs of families,” shared Rivera. 13 family members and 59 students between the ages of 9 and 12 years old participated in this first activity. The participants took away information material, a healthy plate, a values manual and a therapeutic tool.

Casa Familiar has been established in that school community since 2018, offering family support services in healthy parenting methods, socio-emotional, recreational activities, alternative therapies, psychological therapies and accompaniment for free.
